In order to embark on this adventure, you will leave the Billund airport on a Monday afternoon and you will take the flight back on a Friday afternoon. This means you have 4 full days and nights to enjoy this wild destination in the Carpathian Mountains. The initial destination is Bucharest, the capital city of Romania, and the most important cultural and university center in the country. Transport is ensured from the Bucharest airport to the accommodation place in the mountains.
The Carpathian Mountains are one of the wildest and most beautiful parts of Europe, where wolves, bears and lynx still wonder in the vast forests. There is no other place of comparable size left in Europe where you can experience such contact with the stunning nature. We offer you a 4 day programme in the CARPATHIA project area with a medium to high difficulty, suited for adventurers and people who want to get in touch with nature.
As you can see, all costs are included in the package price. Before we present the detailed schedule for each day, we must mention that we will start every day at the cabin at the crack of dawn. We’ll have a cup of hot coffee or tea and try our luck in observing any wildlife or birds showing up near the wooden cabin. After we have a traditional, organic breakfast in the hide, the daily adventure begins.
The experienced guides will provide you lunch during the hiking breaks and also dinner, after returning back to the cabin. We’ll spend each evening trying to observe the wildlife and listening to stories and legends of the place.
We will meet at the airport in Bucharest and take you to the Bunea hide, your accommodation place. The hide was built in 2016 and has a spectacular setting above Pecineagu Lake. We will be greeted with a surprise drink and will spend the next nights in this unique place. The Bunea hide is equipped with a private bathroom with shower and comfortable beds. We will also check the camera traps installed in the surrounding area and look out for all kind of forest-dwelling birds. During the evening, we’ll try to observe wildlife in the surroundings and will have a magnificent menu for dinner. We guarantee you will sleep well taking into consideration the spectacular view upon the surrounding areas.
We will wake up at the crack of dawn and observe the wild, small animals and birds which are in the area. We’ll get a tasty breakfast served in the hide and then embark on a hike through a neighbouring semi-virgin forest down to Pecineagu Lake. Afteran hour oh hiking, we are back at the vehicle which will transport us to the high end of Valea Vladului.
We will spend the day hiking with a fantastic view over the mountains around, trying to see marmots and chamois. In the afternoon, we will return back to Bunea hide, where we’ll spend another evening trying to observe wildlife and experiencing the unique atmosphere of the location. The guides will provide a tasty lunch during a hike break and also dinner, when returning back to the cabin.
We will wake up at the crack of dawn again for a cup of hot coffee or tea and try our luck once more to observe any wildlife or birds showing up. After we have a traditional, organic breakfast in the hide, we will explore the south side of Pecineagu Lake and hike up to Pecineagu meadow, where we’ll have a splendid view over the mountains. Look out for tracks of wildlife and keep your eyes wide open! There is a decent chance we might see red deers or bears on the way.
We’ll return in the afternoon back to Bunea hide, where we’ll spend another evening trying to observe wildlife and listening to stories and legends of the place.
We will wake up at the crack of dawn again for a cup of hot coffee or tea. After we enjoy the traditional, organic breakfast one more time, we will drive up the valley to the very end of Otic Valley and hike up to Varful Rosu (2,469 m), the highest peak of the Iezer-Papusa Mountains. This is a day long hike with high chances of observing bears, red deers, chamois or golden eagles.
This is the day we say goodbye. After sharing the traditional breakfast one last time, you will be taken to the airport in Bucharest.
You will leave the Billund airport on a Monday afternoon. Time of the flight: from 15:35 to 19:25 . If you have preferences regarding the seats, let us know. You can bring a hand luggage and a 23kg luggage for this trip. Are you used to travelling light or you would rather have a larger luggage? Again, we can fix this, just let us know. The flight back is on a Frinday afternoon. Time of flight: 15:35 to 19:25.
The Bunea cabin was built using local wood and timber, natural materials and employing traditional craftsmen on a land that is part in a major conservation project created to protect the wildest mountains in Romania. The building was designed and sited to have minimal environmental impact, to be in harmony with nature, land contour and minimum removal of vegetation. Also, the local craftsmen used only traditional building techniques which offer this cabin a unique, traditional look.
Even the cleaning products used in the cabin are biodegradable and environmentally friendly. The service and storage items are made of durable materials and the food and beverages are purchased from local suppliers – the organic origin is compulsory.
